YNYA is the Young Adult Ministry of Los Angeles' Korean church, Youngnak Church of Los Angeles. The members of YNYA are a diverse group, including individuals studying or working abroad from Korea, second-generation Korean-Americans born in the U.S. to Korean parents, and Korean immigrants who have moved to the U.S. These photos were taken during a retreat that the YNYA family attended together in 2024. They care for and love one another, recognizing themselves as a community. Many Korean young adults continue to join Young Nak Church, and the community continues to grow.
This series features photographs of federal employees working in California. California is an incredibly beautiful and peaceful place. The people who live there are relaxed, kind-hearted, and know how to love others. The state greets us with its uniquely clear skies and radiant sunshine, while boasting world-famous landmarks such as Yosemite National Park in the north and Joshua Tree in the south.
However, California's ability to maintain its stunning beauty may be thanks to someone's effort and sacrifice. Although we may not always recognize their dedication, they are tirelessly working for us, even at this very moment.
In 2025, the Eaton wildfire caused immense damage and left deep scars on the residents of Altadena. They are enduring incredibly difficult lives and are in despair. However, they have not lost hope. People from all across the nation are making donations to support the residents of Altadena. With a shared sense of unity and community, many are stepping forward to help. Although Altadena is now in ruins, they will rise again someday.
The 2025 Eaton Fire was a large-scale wildfire that broke out in January 2025 near Altadena, California. Dry winter weather and strong winds caused the flames to spread rapidly, resulting in severe damage to nearby residential areas and natural environments.
The fire destroyed hundreds of buildings, forced thousands of residents to evacuate, and caused multiple injuries. Additionally, the local ecosystem suffered significant damage, making recovery efforts challenging. This wildfire has once again highlighted the growing risk of wildfires driven by climate change.
The Itaewon tragedy was a large-scale crowd crush incident that occurred on the night of October 29, 2022, in Itaewon, Yongsan District, Seoul. A massive crowd gathered in Itaewon to celebrate Halloween, and a narrow alleyway became overcrowded, leading to an uncontrollable situation.
As a result, 159 people lost their lives, and 196 were injured, making it one of the deadliest crowd disasters in modern South Korean history. Most of the victims were young people in their 20s and 30s, and the incident brought immense shock and grief both domestically and internationally. Following the tragedy, the importance of crowd management and safety measures was highlighted, sparking discussions about the response and accountability related to the incident.
Starting from the following day, October 30, memorial services for the victims of the tragedy were held at Itaewon Station for several days. Many people gathered in grief, united in their desire to send the victims to a place of peace.
